This better date is really tough to find in MS64 condition. Only 453,000 were minted, many were melted down and never circulated. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. PCGS encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-64 condition of the coin.
CAC green sticker certified for above average strike and eye appeal. Conservatively graded in our opinion, PQ++. Struck at the Denver Mint.
Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U. Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background.
