This better date is rare to find in this MS62 condition. A very small group were minted of 34,000 with many melted down and never put in circulation. This is a date most collections are missing from the San Francisco Mint. The MS62 offered today is a nice value play under current market conditions. You won't find a better deal for this date.

The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin.
