1927 1 oz gold Double Eagle Saint-Gaudens PCGS MS63

1927 1 oz gold Double Eagle Saint-Gaudens PCGS MS63. Had ever produced prior to the modern era, with a majestic image of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a flying eagle on the reverse.

While the original mint numbers for a given year can be seemingly high, many of the 20s were melted. Moreover, because these coins are very desirable, most are now slabbed, graded, and part of someone's collection. It is a reality that in just 8 years, this coin will celebrate its 100th anniversary. All gold Double eagles carry two values: the spot price of gold, and the numismatic/collector's vale of a 100 year-old coin, based on condition. So don't value the coin today based on a book or publication that is even slightly out of date. Diameter: 34.1 mm; Composition: 90% gold, 10% copper; Gold content. 9675 Troy Ounce; Production: 1907 - 1933; Mass: 33.431 grams; Mint Mark: No mint mark for Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco can be found on the obverse above the date. At the time of issue in 1907 there were 46 states. 46 stars ring the obverse, until 1911 when two more states were added and the coin included 48 stars. Rather famously, Saint-Gaudens original design included a high-relief concept that proved to be too difficult for the technology of the times. To honor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, his original high-relief design was manufactured by the United States mint for one year, in 2009. That technological tour-de-force carries 50 stars on the edge of the coin. I have one of those for sale currently. THIS COIN HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY GRADED, CERTIFIED AND SLABBED BY PCGS. IN ADDITION, I VERIFY THE METAL CONTENT MYSELF VIA SIGMA ANALYTICS.
