This better date is really tough to find in choice MS65 condition. Only 4,323,500 were minted, many were melted down and never circulated. This 1924 is a popular date from the Philadelphia Mint. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. NGC encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-65 condition of the coin. Older NGC FAT Holder, certified over 20 years ago. Amazingly rare to find in this high grade. Conservatively graded in our opinion, Ive seen MS66 coins not this nice. This coin is a Super Gem.
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U.
Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background. Beautiful color and very rare in this condition. The item "1924-P $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Pre-33 NGC MS65 Old FAT Holder PQ++" is in sale since Monday, July 27, 2020.
