The weld flash allows NGC encapsulation technicians to assess the welding pressure and thoroughness of the holder seal. Gaudens Double Eagle gold piece graded Mint State 66 (MS-66) by NGC. Named after its designer Augustus Saint Gaudens, he was commissioned by president Theodore Roosevelt in 1904. The primary motive behind Roosevelts request was to beautify Americas coinage.
