A sleeper issue thats much rarer than we previously thought. This better date is really tough to find in MS64+ condition. Only 796,000 were minted, many were melted down and never circulated. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush.

They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. NGC encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-64+ condition of the coin. Plus (+) designation for superb strike and eye appeal.

CAC certified (green sticker) signify its a premium quality example worthy of the next grade higher. Graded almost 20 years ago by NGC, this is as fresh as they come. Conservatively graded in our opinion, PQ++.

Struck at the San Francisco Mint. Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U. Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background.
