Less than 200,000 coins were minted. Only 156,258 were minted, many were melted down and never circulated. To find a nice high grade With Motto Philadelphia Mint coinage is nearly impossible.
The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin.
Graded decades ago by PCGS as seen by the Old Green PCGS label. Conservatively graded by todays standards Ive seen MS62s not look this nice. PCGS encapsulation offers protection and guarantees MS-61 condition of the coin. Conservatively graded in our opinion, PQ++. With motto and Struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U. Capitol building in the backdrop.
Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background. Beautiful color and very rare in this condition.
