1908 $20 No Motto Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle NGC MS64 Old Holder PQ+
We just cherry picked this from a local collection thats been off the market for years. This coin is PQ for the grade with nice orange gold surfaces. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. The no motto design carries a significant piece of history in United States coin design because after the symbolic In God We Trust inscription was intentionally omitted at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt, there was an overwhelming negative reaction from the American public. NGC encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-64 condition of the coin. Fresh Choice Mint State example. Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U. Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background. Beautiful color and rare in this condition. The item "1908 $20 No Motto Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle NGC MS64 Old Holder PQ+" is in sale since Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
